Tips to Find A Good Contract Manufacturer

Thursday, March 01, 2018

What Makes A Good Contract Manufacturer:

When looking at and comparing Contract Manufacturers, you need only to look at a few key points:

  • On Time Delivery
  • Total Price
  • Quality
  • Capabilities

On Time Delivery is something that seems to be often overlooked. While most would look at the Turn Time capabilities, it’s important a Contract Manufacturer can properly schedule and build.

It’s also important to see how a Contract Manufacturer charges when it comes to Piece Price vs Lot Charge, and NREs. Also, this can change with volume. The best lot charge price for 5 pieces may pale in comparison to the unit price for mass production volumes. It’s important to keep an eye to the future long-term cost vs immediate need.

There are too many high-quality Contract Manufacturers to settle for anything other than the highest standards of quality. With that being said, the best way to assure quality is to not tax beyond their capabilities. If the Contract Manufacturer does not specialize in a 1-Day turn, don’t ask for it.

When working with a Contract Manufacturer, you do not want to be at it’s technological limits. Maxing out the limits of a Contract Manufacturers capabilities can leave very little room for error, leading to decreased quality, late deliveries and Increased total cost.
